Srinagar, Sep 27 (KNO): The 11th UT Canoe Sprint Championship, organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Water Sports Kayaking and Canoeing Association, brought the waters of Pokharbal in Srinagar alive on Saturday as over 250 athletes from different districts participated in the highly competitive event.
The championship, which aims to promote water sports among the youth, saw participants competing in multiple categories, displaying remarkable strength, balance and determination on the water.
Many of the youth described the event as a great opportunity to test their skills and dream bigger.
“Competing here against the best from across J&K has boosted my confidence. It’s not just about winning, but about learning and growing,” said a participant while speaking with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
For some, the championship was a stepping stone towards larger goals. “This is the first time I have reached this level and I am motivated to train harder and represent J&K at the national stage,” said Adil Ahmad, a 17-year-old participant.
Another participant shared that the event helped her connect with fellow athletes and gain valuable experience.
“The atmosphere here is electrifying. We are all learning from each other and pushing our limits. It’s an unforgettable experience,” she said.
Meanwhile, officials of the association said the overwhelming participation reflects the growing interest in water sports in the Union Territory. They added that such platforms are vital for nurturing local talent and preparing athletes for national and international competitions—(KNO)
